Connotative Translator, Question 4

"Do you have any suggestions or comments on the Connotative Translator?" (selected anonymous responses)

This is a potential best seller with your business sector.
With increasing globalization, those of us who travel on business are under pressure to learn other languages. This tool would greatly help us grasp the "whole" meanings of expressions in other languages, not just bare literal translations.
Now, this would be very useful. Too often, things get lost in the translation, and this product would help to ensure that the spirit of the text would be accurate.
Smaller market, but extremely useful to those who need translation assistance.
I would definitely find this product useful!
I think it would sell better if you combined several or all of this new devices together into one package. Sounds like a wonderful idea though. Good luck!
I think the most useful versions would be English connotative translations to the other major languages (and back to English), because English is the most widely spoken.
Highly technical, and specific. Definitely charge more!
Very few people are completely fluent in several languages so I would think even professional translators could save time using this resource.
Smaller, inexpensive print versions for travelers would be very useful: "global shrinking" does not eliminate the need for nuance - it underscores our desire to be understood in the context of our own particular culture.
This sounds like a very laborious task but well worth it. I know I would use it.
... A terrific idea, very useful in the small world of today in business, literature, and especially government negotiations and diplomacy.
Being in a business that is involved with ventures all over the world, but more especially Asia where the cultural differences can be huge and the expression "it loses a little in the translation" is absolutely more than a figure of speech.
Much more useful, therefore, worth paying more for.
I would recommend bundling some of these products together in an attractive price offering.
Best application would be for traveling, if you do not know the language of the destination country. You don't want to insult a Parisian waiter!
I need this now!
Could put human translators out of business!
I hope there will be a device for people who don't speak a foreign language but travel a lot and always fear saying the wrong thing. I would buy this to avoid insulting foreigners on their own turf.
Excellent for travelling if a small hand-held device.
Please announce when this software is available, and for which languages. I am bookmarking this site – could you post when it’s ready?
Another cool idea.
I don't speak another language but you should try the translation program at Alta Vista. try translating into another language, then back into English and see what you get. maybe this approach could improve the results!
Excellent concept. I hope you come out with it soon.
This can be applied in automatic translation software. this would be most useful in translating foreign language email.
Ingenious
Especially this would apply to French
Sounds REALLY useful. Don't have professional use for it currently and can't foresee one. If it were portable for travel like an inter-language dictionary I could see the value.
One choice you should have is "hand-held translator device". I would use this for travel in Europe instead of a regular translating device.
Consider it in an Internet translation program, such as the Altavista translation module
Good job
This would be very helpful for people like me who don’t speak a foreign language. I use an electronic translating dictionary but still manage to say the wrong thing.
This sounds very useful, but the available market of people doing translations is smaller, hence you must charge more.
This would be very good for exchange students or English as a second language students who don't know everyday expressions.
This is a great idea for those who wish to expand into new areas of writing and addressing diverse cultures.
This would be great!
As there are many different languages reaching everywhere (even the Georgia Mountains), I would consider this a very useful reference source.
Really handy if it’s one of the functions of a word processor.
Excellent idea
