Emotional Dictionary, Question 4

"Do you have any suggestions or comments on the Emotional Dictionary?" (selected anonymous responses)

When is it coming out? I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
I teach creative writing and would make it a course requirement for my students to get this reference when you have it available. Brilliant work!
Can't wait to get hold of one.
Sounds like a great idea. As a copywriter it's essential to know what effect my choice of words has on people.
I think it is absolutely excellent. I am so glad I discovered it. Thank you very much.
I would like to see something like this available in schools. Teaching children about emotions would be as useful as teaching all major subjects. Children need to understand that emotions fuel every thought and action.
I think this tool would be especially useful for people learning English. (I am an ESL teacher and librarian.)
Sounds wonderful! As a casual but life-long poet, I would be thrilled to have such a language tool.
I believe that this kind of reference material will be priceless for the public speaker!!!
I would like to have one of these, however, I don't know if I would pay what I think it's worth. I probably would go as high as $40. But, I'm pretty tight so even that would bother me a bit. Someone should have thought of this a long time ago.
It sounds like a wonderful tool for communication in any realm. I probably would pay the $45 or up for such a dictionary.
It should be a part of Microsoft software, like spell check and thesaurus, just a click of the mouse away.
Please let me know when they are available!!!!!
Don't limit it to "society specific". The use of another context may have far reaching meanings that are lost from their origins. Example: The King James Bible is far more specific and beautiful than recent versions.
When can I get one? I have such an appreciation for words. If I had an emotional dictionary, it would most definitely get plenty of use.
A excellent idea that may help writers to at least understand if we are being "offensive" to a particular culture by our use of language.
I think that there should be a pocket sized and a regular size form of the printed Emotional Dictionary as well as an abridged form and an unabridged form--just like regular dictionaries.
I think it is quite useful for our study of language and it development, and the metaphoric use of language in different cultures. I wish I could get one.
Perhaps it could come automatically on Word...like the thesaurus is...
This would be a great tool.
It's about bloody time! I've been waiting for this. Way to go!
Especially useful to advertisers/copy writers.
I can immediately see how useful this would be for advertising copywriters and marketing writers, who create slogans or short pithy chunks of copy. I would use it in this context. For a novelist creating long passages, I think it would have to be built into the word processor.
As a writer’s tool I can see great benefits.
The addition of graphics is tremendous -- and, for me, essential to the value of the reference. An image draws up the connotational meaning far more powerfully than written words.
Sounds excellent.
Those who plan to use it should have a solid foundation in the use of their own mother tongue.
Do you have a date for when it's for sale? I hope you post the details on your site.
I do like print, but the possibility that a downloadable version might come with periodic updating at a reduced price is attractive. Makes sense to me, makes it more appealing than print. Suggest you specify if that would be so in your options above.
I also would consider purchasing a CD-Rom, but i'd be sure as hell bummed out if the only format available for Download or CD-Rom is windows/PC based.
Useful idea.
Make it downloadable and save yourself the cost of paper while being able to offer it for a cheaper price.
I think it would be very useful but some people might not be in a financial situation to buy such, ie. persons on disability, who are some of the most talented writers around.
It sounds like a very useful tool. I would definitely like to have one at my disposal.
Poets could more accurately target reader's emotional and intellectual tendencies.
Although I would find it useful and would desire a copy, if the price of the [connotative] dictionary were as exorbitant as the majority of reference material, I would be hard pressed to purchase a copy unless I had extra cash, DESPITE my desire for a copy.
This type of tool sounds very beneficial. Not many people realize the value of differing styles of writing tools.
Sounds pretty boss!
Very useful in close relationships.
It should cover Hebrew and Arabic connotations; German and English connotations; French and Portuguese connotations....
I wish that I would have known about it a lot sooner. I believe it would have helped both me and my poetry to express and grow better.
Good idea. I encourage it.
Where do I get one?
I would like to have one.
You should be sure to register the historical drift of the emotional tone of words and phrases. For example, a term like "jazz" has changed its emotional tone with each generation of users.
Paper versions of dictionaries and encyclopedias are outdated! Make a shareware project out of it, consider if you can make it available for FREE over the internet.
The price I suggest depends on the size of the dictionary. I would not hesitate to pay $150 (Canadian) for a good, large desk dictionary or equivalent CD_Rom, but I would be reluctant to pay more than $15 for a "pocket" dictionary or "quick reference" dictionary.
I would suggest the name be changed to Connotative Dictionary. For me, Emotional Dictionary draws away from the purpose.
This will help to widen the vocabulary of poets all over and help to portray the feelings in a more understandable way.
If you market this to marketing people such as brand managers or product marketing managers as a tool to help them name companies, products, and services, then you'd certainly reach one audience that would pay for your product.
I prefer Connotational Dictionary. Emotional Dictionary suffers from the ambiguity that the dictionary is an emotional object.
Great idea and concept.
Emotionally speaking, I need it NOW!!
A revolutionary idea, though in a way it might be termed a dictionary of symbols. I wish it were available at the moment.
Would be very valuable in the creative for marketing/advertising/result_driven content.
I think it is an excellent concept that has brought with it the creation and application of a necessary tool...
Call it something else. Perhaps "Cultural Dictionary" (More men will buy it)
It needs to be readily available to all. I need help to write for a college class. So I hope it is available real soon.
It would be great _ a cure for "thesaurusitus" where students just swap everyday words with complex and often unfitting (connotatively, at least) synonyms.
Make it available today.
I have only recently become interested in writing. I would consider the Emotional Dictionary a great asset in helping me pursue this. At the age of 77, I need all the help I can get!
This dictionary is very much needed.
